You might want to look at a food blog by Jenn Segal "Once Upon a Chef". She photographs each step of a recipe beginning with an image of all of the ingredients. BTW her recipes are very tasty--have made several of them to high acclaim!

Thanks Gene,

Somehow I knew you wouldn't disappoint, and would have some resource ideas. I'm not going to go nuts, and I'm not going to style what we cook beyond edibility, but I'm the kind of person who wants to read all about what the pros do in order to make my work as good as it can be for the purpose intended. At work, I shoot dozens of "documentary" JPEGs of construction in progress, and they are not my most artistic work. But I still try to expose, focus, and frame as well as I can. If you're going to attempt something, do it as well as you can.

On the food front, we have over 150 cookbooks, and subscribe to the usual suspects, so I have some ideas of what the pros like to attempt. Now I'm going to go out and buy Delores Custer's book. Thanks for the suggestion!

I got you beat - over 1200 cookbooks, and then there are the magazines - probably 3000.

Food prep in progress is challenging - lighting especially. Food&Wine usually has features that include shots of people preparing food. Ditto for the last 5 or 6 years of Gourmet.

I've got a copy of an early pre-release version of her book. It is a must read for anyone looking to do food shoots. There are other stuff you nay want to look at, so let me know when you need some fresh ideas.

Sounds like we should have a “taste-off”. I’m sure you’d win a shoot off.

😊
