It’s a SUPERZOOM. Great for casual snapshots. Not for professional, high quality images.

I just purchase the Tamron 18-400 for my d7000 and 7200 I love the lens great reach fast auto focus it hasn't come off my 7200 since purchased. I had a Nikon 18-105 kit lens that came with the 7000 the Tamron imo hands down superior

Bought that Tamron in March and it hasn't been off the D5300 since. And that's after three days in Boston, three weeks in Ireland, two weeks at home and a week in Annapolis. Love it.

Which Nikon 18-300? If the f/6.3 version, upgrade. If the f/5.6 version, stay with what you have.

Mikerf, We've owned and used the Tamron 18-300mm for years, older and the newest version. Snagged an original (no VC) for $50, makes a fine walkabout lens, even against Nikon lens, not as fast or quiet as the Nikon P obviously, but a good lens for the price. sv

As long as you avoid using it at either extreme of its range or in low light conditions

I've had one since this past fall, paired with a D7500 - it has performed very well in almost every condition from night-time shooting to portraits. I'm very happy with it.

I've been shooting with a SLR since '68 and have more than a few lenses. I was sooo happy to be able to change lenses back in '68; now, 50 yrs later, I'm shooting with the 18mmx 400mm Tamron and I'm totally satisfied with the quality of this glass, the reach....and I'm sooo happy that I don't have to lug and change lenses and bags anymore. I shoot 3 times a week in a dimly lit and varied live theatre setting and I'm very impressed with the shots that I'm getting. Nice colour too . Highly recommended.
