I can’t afford to upgrade to the 810 or the 850. Have had my 700 almost since its introduction. Don’t really have a strong reason to contemplate this, but do like the idea of video capability

I upgraded from the D700 to the D810. I also kept the D700 and will probably die with it in my side. Most people could not tell the difference between the pictures made by either one. However the D850 seems to focus faster and finds the eye on its own. While I'm shooting, they feel the same. I can crop pictures out of pictures with the D810 more so than the D700. Sometimes I feel the D810 is m back up. And I only have used the video on the 810 once, just to see if it works. I suspect you will find the D750 has advantages over the D700 as did I. In fact I have thought of getting one because of its articulated screen, U1, U2 settings, and light weight. Just hang onto your D700.

I want to get a full frame camera and have been waiting to see the D750 replacement. The D750 was introduced in 2014 and is due for an upgrade. I've seen the D750 discounted to $1500 lately. It makes me wonder if they are trying to clear out the current stock of D750 cameras. The discounted price even includes a battery grip.

As it's so often said, unless the D700 can't do what you want to do, there is no need. The D750 does have video, if that is what you want.
That being said, while the D700 is no slouch, mine has sat on a shelf since I upgraded to the D750. Twice the pixels, newer processor, better low-light performance, and tilt screen.
I can't speak to the likelihood of an imminent successor to the D750.

Yes! I still have my D700. Like Leon, I guess I always will. But if you want video and are buying "new", the D750 is a very good buy. My daughter uses one for her photography business and it does a great job.

I doubt I'll be tempted to get the D750 replacement. My D750 is just fine.

Agreed. The only thing I dislike about it is the AA filter.

Really? You don't need "stereo" D750s?

Are you going to video much? Your phone can give you very decent video. If it was me, and it's not,the D700 is one sweet camera and if your doing max. 8X10's you don't need anything else. You can also get a cheap, good, video camera for a LOT less money than a D750. And the technology is changing so fast your better off keeping what you have, IF YOUR HAPPY WITH IT. Enjoy and keep on shooting until the end.

I was using a D300s/D700 combo with FX lenses mounted on each. Got tired of shlepping two bodies so sold both and bought a used D810 from local dealer. My rejection of the D750 was based on:
1. Not easy to find a good quality used D750 unit;
2. No AF-ON button on D750 for Back Button Focus;
3. Max shutter speed of 1/4000s vs 1/8000s on D810;
4. Build quality of D750 not as good as D300/D700;

I'm only going to be purchasing cameras that don't have an AA filter from now on. When I purchased my D500 (no AA filter), I could see that the images are a little sharper than the images from all of my other Nikon cameras that have an AA filter. I did comparison shots with my D500 and a D750. The images were processed the same way for consistency. The D500 images were clearly sharper.

While the ten year old D700 is no slouch...faster max. shutter speed, larger vu finder, the D750 is newer technology. If video is a must have then go with the D750 but to me that's not a strong enough reason to get rid of the D700.

Agreed. The difference is noticeable.

OK, let's look at the reality of this. Once you start shooting video, you're going to need hard drive space. That's going to run some bucks. So, keep that in mind.
