Thanks Angela. They are fun to watch and capture. My new interest is watching them and trying to capture an unusual position. 99 Percent of them lay flay with their wings spread flat as they suck the nectar.

They are fun to watch and even more so frolicking around your yard trying to get one to land so you can shoot! lol..

You never can tell. One butterfly saw I had a Nikon and flew away.

I'm just hoping my monarchs will return this year, the milkweed is almost in bloom!

Thank You for your kind comment and observation. I studied them in the greenhouse as they flew, and was not happy to just see just spread wings. So I waited and watched and it did pay off.

The Chicago Botanical Garden has a butterfly in bloom greenhouse. Always looking for a unique position of the butterfly on a flower sucking the nectar. Look at those green eyes and its wing span.

Camera: Nikon D800
Lens: 200 mm Nikon Micro Nikkor f/4
Exposure: Aperture-priority AE, 1/500 sec, f/11, ISO 4000

Thanks for looking!

that is a great shot, stan...love those eyes!
