I'm considering shifting the daily digest from 5AM eastern time to 1PM eastern time

Just a heads up. Not yet, but possibly soon.
I know that a lot of subscribers like to read the digest with their "morning coffee". But over the past few years, it seems like I'm getting more and more pissed off people whose phones beep, vibrate or light up at 5-6AM upon receipt of our digest e-mail. And for those on the West Coast it's 2-3AM.
Some people have their phones set to never notify them. Some set it to always notify them. But in the end, too many get those notifications that wake them up. And they get pissed at me for sending e-mail too early in the morning.
I guess things have changed to the point where e-mail gets read in almost real time, as soon as it's received. So I must adapt.
It used to be that I would send out the digest and it would sit and wait in subscriber's inbox until convenient time to read it. So 5AM delivery was a good option to start off the day. But with the way the technology is evolving, this doesn't seem acceptable anymore.
It's strange how we all changed over the course of just several years.
In any case, I'm currently looking into a way to send out two digests per day. So that people who prefer to continue receiving it at 5AM could choose so in their settings. But that adds a host of other technical issues. So most likely, the digest will be switched to 1PM delivery in the near future.
I am a west coast reader, and I really enjoy the UHH over my morning coffee. However, I understand the issue of cell phones dinging alerts, particularly for east coast and midwest followers. I will adpat as needed. What about sending it at 8:00 AM east coast time?
No problem as I am not a slave to a freakin' cell phone.

Makes no difference to me. Just keep on doing the great job you’re doing.
It's a toss up between waking a few people up and a few reading yesterday's news with their morning coffee. I'm glad I didn't have to make that decision.

Apparently I'm a sound sleeper, as I don't recall having ever been awakened by the newsletter coming in on my iPhone. I am also one who enjoys reading the digest in the morning along with my coffee. But, oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and you can't please all the people all the time. I'll adapt.
I enjoy the early morning as well. Read it as I am eating my corn flakes.........
I agree with Indi and thank you for your good work.
I agree with Indi, just keep doing the great job your doing. We're luck to have you.

No difference to me - I just have my phone set to silent when I'm otherwise occupied.

If this thread doesn't make it into the digest, I wonder how many topics we will have to endure from people who don't understand that all they have to do is log onto the website - whether over coffee or any other beverage or meal of their choice - and there will be double the number of topics to choose from!
(I turn my cell off when I go to sleep at night. I still have a house phone and an alarm clock radio...)

I read mine at 6-7 pm GMT or an Hour later in summer. It isn't 'connected' to my cell phone....and yet I can still P*** certain people off.
Whatever you do.....keep on doing it with style!

Don't punish the many for the inconsiderate few... IF they are too technically challenged to put their phone in "do not disturb" or shut off the email notification - that's THEIR problem - not ours... You are doing a GREAT job and should not have to add additional work and more code modifications because of them... I vote for leave it as is - they can suck it up and put on their big boy pants and be an adult instead of a self centered crybaby...
