I can't say I enjoyed the vitriol found in the recent Rushmore thread, and I'm not looking to re-start the hate/debate. I do, though, wish to share a couple of alternate views of the monument. These were taken last summer as my just-graduated daughter and I took a 4200 mile road trip, passing Rushmore just a couple of days before returning home. I, too, visited on a day with MANY other visitors, but a friend had made me promise to watch the sunset ceremony. Say what you will about the monument itself, but watching a couple dozen veterans folding the American flag after the ceremony was very moving. My favorite images ended up being these two, both taken after dark.
I really like the first one, as it's a view, or portrayal, that is not commonly seen. The second one, so so.

Very nice. Never been there but need to seeing as my daughter lives nearby.
Missed the diatribe but Mt Rushmore is one of the more we’ll known sites that get visitors. As such people should be prepared for the lack of prime shots. Glad you enjoyed the sites. Great pics

First images highlights the textures and colors in the stone, most images of the monument focus on the faces.
Am I missing something, what is the problem with the Mount Rushmore monument?

Tex-s, thank you for this unique view. As I stated yesterday Rushmore view I will ever have are the result of fantastic images posted by UHH members. Excellent set of photos.
Greg
That must be a beautiful sight seeing that in person. Nice capture.

There were a couple of posters yesterday nastily whining about desecrating the face of a mountain--typical holier than thou ranters because they know best--they think.
Thanks for the thoughts folks. Much appreciated. Just noticed I forgot to include the full sized pic on the second one though ..... oops.
