So, I got off work early one day and decided to go around my neighborhood and do some street photography. I had much success on this day and will show some of the other shots in the coming days and weeks ahead. Here is one that I am especially proud of. It is rare to get a really nice shot of a Buddhist Monk, so that alone makes this shot good IMHO. But the temple itself looks spectacular as well, and a Monk with a cell phone, shooting a photo of the building is even better.
If you should ever visit a temple in China, proper manners are to walk around the building 3 times prior to entering. The Buddhists in China are quite proud of their temples and don't mind you photographing inside of them as long as you are quiet and respectful. I have never had any issues with this. In Japan, a completely different story though, which is a shame because some of them are magnificently pretty inside.
In this particular temple, there is a different Buddha on each floor, and it is quite interesting to see them. Total, there are 19 different Buddahs, and each has a specialized area, so depending on what your prayer is will determine which Buddha you pray to. Also, you can tell a Buddha by their enlarged ear lobes, and not the size of their belly. ;-)
Nice photo; interesting history explanation.
