I have the D7500, upgraded from a D5200. I have been very pleased with the 7500; I love the 8FPS for the swim meets that I attend. I love the D5 metering system, makes for great pictures. The camera is extremely well made, has great weather sealing and I love that touchscreen. I know some people don't want a touchscreen, but after years of smartphone and tablet use, have the same interface on my DSLR just makes everything so much simpler.

Thanks! I read that one during my initial research. I don't need high speed stuff, and I hate touchscreens. If it's a tossup or photo finish (pun intended... ) I'm inclined to go for the less expensive model, especially as I've seen so many "minty" lightly used models out there.

Those are very good points and I won't argue the merits of touchscreens. What I do like is the overall faster speed of the D7500 compared to the D7200 of last week.

I have set up ny D7500 with back button focus, and it's been superbly accurate. The metering system is awesome and as I learn the various settings and features it produces great results. Yes, I use full auto quite a bit, with aperture prefered as my alternate setting for situations where I can take time to take the picture.

It does look like a great camera! I like to kep my ISO and I'm rarely shooting action or wildlife, never on auto or "scene" modes. I'll consider the 7500 if
one comes along at a bargain price. That's why I like to get an early start on my next purchases - I can take my time and find the best combination of condition, trusted seller, and price. It might be a full year before I find the right combo, and I'm still looking for a good long reach DX telephoto as first priority.

This research is like a Beano pill. It keeps my GAS under control before the fact!

D7200 is a no-brainer unless (A) you are predominantly an action shooter where focusing speed is important or (B) you must have the flip screen. If not, the advantages of the D7500 are not worth the extra $$ you'd have to pay, and there is the minor disadvantage of having only one card slot. If you are an action shooter, or become one, the D500 is an awesome tool with everything you'd need, and worth paying for.

Yes, that's where I'm headed, I think.

Second slot is not important to me in the type of shooting we do.

Thanks for responding!

Nikon has finally figured out the best location for the ISO button. The D7500, D500, D5, and D850 have the ISO button right behind the shutter button. Also, the video record button, to the left of the shutter button, can be reprogrammed to execute mode. I don't shoot video so I reprogrammed mine. It's great having program, aperture priority, shutter priority, manual mode, and ISO quickly available.

That's logical, but honestly, I have no preference here. On our 3200s, I've got the FN button programmed for ISO, and I use it easily to set the practical limit for whatever I'm shooting. Convenience is basically whatever you're used to or train yourself to be used to, no? I don't mind the menu driven selections at all, perhaps as a result of the subject matter I'm likely to be shooting.

Have a look at a comparison between the D7200 and the D5600 before you decide. From what I can see the specs are almost identical, the only thing going in the D7200's favour is its weather sealing, for which you pay a high weight penalty. I was faced with the same choice and chose the D5600 because it was slightly cheaper and there were some features it had that I wanted (Snapbridge and articulating touchscreen). Also like you I'm a bargain hunter and mine came up on a second hand website for AUD600 including Nikon 18 - 55 and 55 - 200 plus a Gorilla tripod and quality bag. It's done 2600 shutter clicks and looks and works like new. I upgraded from a D3100...

Why?

I don't "love" spending enough to buy my wife and I EACH a refurbished or lightly used D7200 and get a headstart on another lens, only to go backwards in MP capacity and gain features that I don't need or want?

Did you actually read my post? Furnishing an answer of "You will love it" with no details, reasons or explanation isn't really helping me here.

Sorry to be blunt, but a lot of Hoggers seem to offer one sentence explanations without ever answering the question "Why?".

Yeah... the D500 is 2K... You would have to think long and hard to decide on it....Not knocking the camera... it is probably a great one.
