If you download from a real software provider (Adobe, Microsoft, Corel, Serif, Apple, etc.), then you don’t have to worry.

It’s unfortunate and I hate to see people get ripped off by companies like these. Additionally, I would make sure your virus and security software is up to date. Many shady sites will inbed keystroke loggers, trackers, piggybackers, and other malware. They can also set it up where by installing the software you essentially give permission or access to your hard drive and can establish a pipeline to transmit your sensitive data.
Not trying to scare anyone, but it’s important to know what you install and where.
