In 2015 I got the chance to tour RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida. Soooo many wonderful volunteers work night and day to keep this rescue going. They take in the worst of the worst... horses and donkeys, even dogs and cats, that are near death.
This is Whisky... brought in unable to walk and a virtual skeleton due to years of abuse and neglect.
He was almost euthanized on the spot at RVR to end his suffering in a compassionate way, but a dedicated volunteer there saw a glimmer of life in his eyes, and took on 24 hour care with him. He almost gave up, many times, but with love, attention, and appropriate medication and food, he did slowly recover. His recovery took over a year, and was not a straight line up to health. He had many set backs.
Here he is today— A strapping, loving, gorgeous horse!
I was so struck by his story— I hope my portrait serves to show the public what goes on behind closed doors.
Much of my art sales I donate to animal rescue groups. I also dontate my paintings and other works of art (I work in a variety of mediums) to many different animal rescue organizations across the USA for their silent auctions.
Chalk one up for a compassionate human.
Beautiful photo! Glad the horse is now healthy.

I hope there is a special place in HELL for anyone who treats an animal badly.
So happy this lovely creature is OK now!
Beautiful pic - I have a really good friend here who works with an equine rescue in middle TN (and has been a "foster fail" many times over lol) and it's amazing what a little love can do for these magnificent creatures!
Yep— I know all about foster fail!!! LOL. Sometimes you just can’t let them go...

What an amazing story, and a great great photo.
Thank you...! It’s truly amazing what these volunteers do— a lot of the expense comes out of their own pockets... that’s why I feel it is so important to support the causes and organizations that we believe in 💕

In the rescue org I worked with when I was younger, we used to gently (but firmly) joke: if you can't spare some time for the animals, just please send money !!!
As necessary as it is, rescue is costly !!!!!
Oh, it sure is...! From medicine costs, to vets, to food— adds up very, very quickly.
