Just announced. You probably haven't had a chance to have hands-on, but what are your thoughts? Pretty steep price?

Definitely a steep price. I had both the II and the IV, and I sold both. With every new model, there is a substantial jump in price. I wasn't thrilled with the II or IV, and I certainly wouldn't pay $1,200 for the VI. My A6000 was a bargain at $550 with lens.

I still have the RX100 original. Up graded to the Panasonic LX100 to get 4K video. It is priced at $600. I can't feel a need for the $1200 version of the RX100.

I think it would be fun compare the $1200 Sony RX100 VI and $550 Panasonic ZS100 as serious travel cameras. Both have similar size, sensors and lens length.

Jerry,

As I stated in another thread, a few minutes ago: An RX100III is my EDC ("don't leave home without it").

I cannot see a need for a newer, "better", pocket camera. I hope this goes on for many more years.

Having read the adverts and viewed a couple of previews I believe Sony are being somewhat disingenuous about this particular camera. It is being referred to as a 24 - 200mm f2.8 - f4.5: but that is not the case. There is an asterisk alongside the focal length which shows this to be the full frame equivalent. It is actually a 9 - 72mm f2.8 - f4.5 lens. Those who consider purchasing this camera should be aware that when Sony quote the lens as being 24 - 200mm they should also multiply the f-stops by the same crop factor. The advert should read that the lens is the FF equivalent of a 24 - 200mm f7.4 - f12. How many photographers use f12 other than for macro work?

I agree, the price is steep, however, I ordered one from B & H, to take along as a back up camera along with my D850, on my upcoming cruise and trip to Hawaii, I"m sure this camera will be terrific, the specs and new inovations, truly make this an excellent pocket camera, capable of terrific photographs......

Yes. the price is up there! The lens is a 24-200mm zoom starting at 2.8, but the model V has a lens starting at 1.8, but less zoom (to about 70mm); so this accounts for the hefty price. Every thing else is either the sane of equivalent.

You won't find a more capable camera that fits in your shirt pocket. If you need a high quality camera that fits in your pocket, this is definitely on the short list.

As far as cost goes, can you find a camera with an equivalent lens that is as good at a lower price?

I often compare the cost of a camera to the cost of a divorce. Do you know why divorce is so costly? [Because it's worth it!]

I had and still have the original RX100. The ONLY thing I liked about it was its small size. Not impressed with Sony digital cameras. Regardless of their marketing.

Canon G-3X, today priced lower that $1K: larger zoom, faster auto focus, everything else, "as good," and probably a bit better!

I like the hot shoe on the RX100ii. I will wait for the RXVII to see if it has the hot shoe.

Had the RX100 orginal and it was a great camera until I drowned it. Then bought the RX100 II used and it is better. I suggest a "like new" used model of whatever vintage you choose. The new one is over priced and the earlier models are very good.
