As stated elsewhere:
I run Photoshop 2018 on an iMac and when Apple did the latest update (also could be Adobe for their Mac version) Nik stopped working correctly. DXO's version of the Nik collection fixed the problem. I don't see what is wrong with a company picking up orphaned software and supporting it and $50 is not that much to pay for (hopefully) software that will be maintained, I wished someone had done that for Capture NX-2. The only hesitation is DXO has financial issues and there was talk a while ago about them going belly up.

You can't now, perhaps two years ago.

Nothing wrong with it at all. As stated, I'm happy with my old working free version. I don't use it enough for me to justify $50.
