(another) Lightroom3 question

Chapter 2: I recently posted a question regarding the apparent sluggishness of tasks performed in LR3 and got some good suggestions to remedy, though I have not had time to exhaust the list.

However, in the course of trying suggestions to 'speed things up', I was restarting my laptop. A window opened suggesting that the integrity of a drive (the C drive) should be checked. Usually when this occurs, I cancel before it commences, primaraily because it takes so long, and I am usually in the middle of another task.

Under the circumstances, I decided to let it run.

It may be purely coincidental, but since this event LR3 does not 'see' any of my images on my external hard drive other than what was downloaded subsequent to the C drive check.

The symptoms are different from instances in the past when a question mark appeared next to some folders. Now the external drive shows up in the 'folders' list, but only shows those sub-folders created after 7.20.12.

The drive check only checked the C drive, not the external drive. Does anyone know if this is coincidental, or if checking one drive can affect another?

My 'stab in the dark' guess is that the check on the C drive somehow wiped out the LR3 temporary files and rendered the images on the external drive invisible.

Anyone experience a similar scenario?

I am running WinXP, if that has any bearing.

the only idea i have is that the drive was relabeled to (F:) or some other letter and lightroom is searching for (G:) ,

I have had that happen before, but such is not the case this time. I will double-check when I get home to be sure, though.
