Then you might consider F11 or 16. Remember though your focus looked off in the second photo.

Thanks for the advice. I think the focus point was wrong. I'll reshoot the shot paying more attention to DOF and focus point.

Fine work, although I think the shallow DOF in the artificial flowers shot works much better in creating a soft but linked background. In the real flower shot the interest of many subjects is lacking because only the prime subject is in focus.

But dosen't having only the prime subject in focus force the viewers attention on it?

Yes, it does However, the compositional principle is "unity with variety." In other words the background and the foreground should have similarities, while still creating a center of interest.

I thought the background flowers and foreground flowers provide that similarity?

After monitoring posts for several months I'm submitting for discussion an attempt at a still life.
The first image is of imitation flowers shot from about 10 feet above using a Canon T6s, Tamron 70-300, at /16, 1/10 sec, ISO 6400
The second image is real flowers shot from the same location and camera/lens, at f/5.6, 150/sec, ISO 6400
both are 3 image composites merged in HDR Pro in PS and enhanced slightly with NIK Color Efex Pro4.
I like the first one best but don't remember exactly what affect I used. DUH!
After monitoring posts for several months I'm subm... (show quote)

Very nice wham121736, welcome to UHH
