Welcome. "Understanding Exposure 4th EDITION" by Bryan Peterson will be a wonderful read for you. As a new person in photography, one of the most trying hills to climb is the language of photography. Everything in photography comes back to capturing light. The focus is an important function and one you will grasp as you shoot images. Don't get frustrated because you will have to make 10,000 images before you get "it". Once you understand the language other things will be more clear. Photography is a wonderful profession, hobby, and art. Have fun and don't ever let anyone here get under your skin. There are grumps everywhere you go and there is a vast knowledge base here with people that will bend over backwards to help you. Have fun.
