I am such a thinker. I take super long to make a decision. I need a sharp lens and not supper heavy. What do you think?
Maybe 24-70 Nikon but is it too heavy. That is the range I am thinking I might need. I like to take photos of the grandkids mostly. Nikon d5100. I am up for opinions. Thank you.

I shoot Canon and the Canon 24 - 70 f/2.8 M II is my main go to lens for family, street, almost any venue other than long lens needs. It's incredibly sharp and great in low light, especially on my full frame 5D MIII. I don't leave home without it.

For a crop sensor camera, look at the Sigma 18-35 ART

I really like my 18-300 Nikon lens for taking pictures of the grand kids. It works great inside and at their events. Taken many pictures of them at their soccer games. Band concerts. Birthday parties. It is wide enoug for smaller rooms and has the reach at soccer games or while running a race.

I really enjoy it for travel. First big trip for this lens will be a Med cruise this fall from Barcelona to Venice.

Something in the range of the Nikon 18-140 or 18-200 would be a great all around lens, without the weight.

I have both the Nikon 18-140 and 18-300 and find them to be about the same weight when hanging around my neck.

I use an 18-200 as my walk-around.

We did Barcelona to Venice on Oceania last year, great trip. We did almost all the special gourmet sites. I just wish I had a little wider lens. I had the 18-55 mm zoom on my Nikon d3400. I bought a used fisheye for the next trip. I fooled around with it on landscapes and in a museum already, I think it will be fun on our next trip.

Who are you addressing your question to?

If it is to my response, yes it is sharp. It is also very good in low light.

Define too heavy. A lens in that range will run around 2 pounds in weight. Mounted on a full frame Nikon like the D850 you're looking at a total weight of around 4 lbs. On a D5100 the weight is somewhat less but that focal length on a crop body doesn't go very wide. And the lens you're referring to costs $1800. Only you can judge is that's too heavy for you.

If you're asking these very basic questions here about an $1800 lens, you need to do a lot more research before purchasing. Have you read the reviews and looked at the test results on various bodies? Have you considered the focal range on a crop sensor body? The lens in question weighs more than your cameras does.
