According to medisco.eu, “Helicon FB Tube is an extension tube with integrated electronic microcontroller designed to enable automated focus bracketing in single or continuous shooting modes. Mounted on the camera in the same way as a usual macro extension tube, Helicon FB Tube automatically shifts the focus by one step with each shot thus producing a stack of images of unlimited length that can be rendered into a fully-focused image.”
Bozsik I hope you don't mind my posting, I had been thinking about it but you beat me to it. There are a few others on the UHH using the tube, maybe they will contribute also.
Maybe a sub forum on focus stacking will get started. I know a lot the people on Macro do it but macro is not the only use for focus stacking. I have been doing a lot of plants and flowers. (Dear Admin - No I am not dumb enough to be volunteering to moderate such a section. I am old, fat, retired and lazy. I can find enough ways to kill time without something that would require a regular schedule like checking and running a sub forum.)
I have an FB tube also. It is simple and easy to use. As the thread title says "Almost like Cheating"
Use the app (available for android, iphone, PC & Mac to set the lens, camera (sorry only Canon or Nikon at present), number of frames and if you want the focus shifted toward or away from the camera. I added a wired remote shutter that allows me to set the number of frames for the camera since the FB Tube only controls the lens focus.
#1 FB Tube, Tamron 180 macro, smart phone with IR transmitter in 3.5 mm plug jack.
#2 FB Tube mounted between Tamron 180 and 5DIV with smart phone positioned to transmit settings
#3 closer look, the small round object above the IR transmitter is the indicator light that tells you when the tube has received the settings or when a frame is shot. The IR receiver on the tube is very small and almost hidden behind the IR transmitter.
I have only been playing with it for about 3 months, Bozsik has a lot more experience and has posted some excellent images including a young bird in a nest.

I have been using the FB tube from Helicon focus for about a year now. I am enjoying the ease and stressless workflow since I have been stacking in the field with it. This image is from the same collection as the post in the close-up section I posted just prior to this. I feel like I am cheating, because it use to take so long to capture the stacks.
I have 5 different series of shots of this particular set of flowers. Though this isn't in my yard for this sample, it took about 20 minutes to shoot all 5 series with the helicon tube. I grabbed the flowers from the garden and set them in a softbox for the shots illuminated with led work lights. As you can see, the results are more than adequate. Each series took about 15 seconds to shoot 30-40 images. The only reason it wasn't faster is that the buffer on the D810 slowed down and I had to wait for the camera to write to the card.
I hope you are enjoying this series. the other post is in the close-up section.
Enjoy.

David, fantastic photo of this great looking flower. I still need to practice this art form, stacking.
