Hawk and Blue Jay

Hawk landed near a Blue Jay and was not moving...despite Blue Jays attempt to "encourage" him to leave...
Not great IQ but sometimes you get lucky with timing....

Jays and Mocking Birds will do that, some times in groups like a bunch of fighter planes going after a bomber. Crows will do it also - but they are much bigger.

I've also observed the scissor tail flycatchers attacking birds much larger than they are. They are either incredibly brace or incredibly stupid. Not sure which.

In most cases it is territorial or nest defense instincts. The small birds depend on their small size and agility to dodge the bigger bird.

The scissor tails are agile and quick. The fly a loop after hitting the bigger birds so as to be in position for the next strike. You can Tel, the bigger birds just want to move on. They rarely put up a defense.
