The prairies in NW Illinois are not yet blooming as the only flowers in the vicinity of the Mississippi River are these patches of yellow attracting attention in the midst of last years growth and plants yet to blossom. These are ragwort, not an attractive name and said to be poisonous to humans and harmful to horses, but still they are the only color visible so they are noticeable.
