As much as I love my macro and I'm learning to photograph bugs, the spider I saw in my house this morning will not be photographed in any way. I believe it was a fishing spider but I'm not sure. I wasn't about to get close and check. It was HUGE. By the time I called my husband to come get it, the thing disappeared and now I don't know where it is. I'm am currently outside where I feel it's safer (lol). My passion for photography only goes so far. Anyone enjoy photographing these spiders? If you do, you're crazy. :)

my fear of spiders has now become concern if I can't find one, it's not that way for many, I've just always wanted to see more so my curiosity won out over the fear I guess............and the realization that they aren't actually going to physically do any harm to me, where as if I'm not careful I can to them

That's hilarious, Audrey. There are many more spiders outside than inside, though. Go back inside.

I am with you, Sister. I stepped into the downstairs half bath the other day to be greeted by about a 2" Wolf Spider. My first thought was to squash it and my second thought was to photograph it. I think you can figure out which thought won out.
Fortunately, she was not carrying any babies.

There are different spiders called fishing spiders, but likely it was this one. Yes, they are scary-big. And more, they can run fast. But on the positive they really only want to run in short bursts and they will not jump and they are not aggressive.

I have had my wife or daughter call me to nuke a spider so small I thought it was a dirt speck on the wall or ceiling. They really don't like spiders.
We buy a fair amount of that special spider spray (regular bug spray generally doesn't work on most spiders). However I found that hair spray, most spray cleaners and some things like febreze work just fine on them, they don't react well to WD-40 either. And of course there is the old fashioned, fly swatter, newspaper or magazine and a shoe or boot. They have made me wash my shoe sole before I came in the house after I stepped on one.

Opps! forgot this was the "Spider Lovers" sub forum.
The next time my ladies want me to come to their rescue I will gently move it to some new location where they can't see it. Like under a 3 pound sledge hammer.

Audrey - Welcome to our macro forum. You will find many of us have lost our fear of spiders, and have grown to respect arachnids. A few of us are actually known as Spider-Whisperers.
Please tell us about your macro set-up: camera, lens, speedlight, etc.

So if I kill the spiders, then I have to buy bug spray or hire an exterminator to kill the insects that the spiders would have taken care of.

Hmmmm. Really glad we are at the top of the food chain.

I am still scared of big spiders but through macro photography I have grown to admire, respect and feel empathy for them. I also feel grateful that they keep down other more unpleasant and intrusive insects. I have seen 3 Wolf spiders this week all carrying their large egg sacs to protect their young, that is worth admiration. Please keep posting, we need more ladies.
