Anyone had any dealings with Ritz Camera of late. My research shows they went BK about 5 years ago, but looking to see how they have been operating of late.
Looking at a possible purchase through Amazon, but item sold and shipped through Ritz.
Ritz is pretty much an online store now. Yup, I was buying a piece of gear on Amazon and it was shipped by Adorama. I just went to their website and purchased directly - same dollars.
yes, been there done that, but is Ritz now a good operating entity. Don't know that they are in the same category as Adorama.
I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel with a 6 megapixel sensor, from Ritz. Two weeks later, the same camera came out for the same price, with an 8 megapixel sensor. The salesperson knew the new model was coming out but apparently wanted to use up the old stock rather than tell me the better version was coming to the store. A few years later I needed a new battery and when I went to the store, the salesperson informed me Ritz no longer supported Canon products and they didn't have any batteries. One would think they would support the products they sold at least to the extent that they would carry replacement batteries. They recommended a Quantary zoom lens (Ritz store brand) that turned out to be a very good lens although I suspect the salesperson recommended it because it was the store brand, not because he knew it was as good as a Nikon or Sigma lens. I'll never step foot in a Ritz store again...no need since UHH turned me on to B & H.

Thanks, I would have never guessed.
I started thinking about a burger, too
First, let me say I bought my last two Nikons at the Ritz Melrose MA location and the service/product explanation was great.
Wow, surprised they closed up the brick and mortar, even more surprised with what looks like a change in business model. Went to the web site and all the Nikon FF cameras are gray market, with a Ritz warranty.
So for me, I'll wait and see how it turns out, but for now my hard earned money will go to the likes of Adorama and B&H
Since we are not talking about doing business with a local 'bricks and mortar' dealer; why would you ever consider doing business with an unknown and 'untraceable' entity? There are at least 5-10 major dealers out there whose virtues have been extolled across the photography blogosphere, including UHH. Unless you are looking for an excuse to buy from Ritz; stick with one of the dealers recommended here over a gazillion times.
I have NEVER had any problems with Ritz; when they had a "local" outfit, I used to take all of my large printing needs to them....

My experience with Ritz/Wolf camera stores is that they employed kids with no real knowledge of photography and paid them according. They were more interested in selling point and shoot cameras to people that they likely got a bigger spiff on. I worked in the camera department of the old EJ Korvette store for awhile and also did the shooting for inter-store functions. I periodically traveled with district managers to other stores to document things like the first use of video cameras for loss prevention. The employees at Ritz/Wolf Stores I went to knew very little about 35mm film SLR cameras.

What's "BK"?
Burger King.
Seriously, legal abbreviation for filing for bankruptcy.
