I use a Sigma 18-300mm on mine. Wide range, not all that heavy, pretty good images.

I use the Canon 18-135mm IS STM as my walk around lens. A lot of people like the Tamron 18-400mm lens. Don't know how the two compare optically but I do like the Canon lens.

GP2, Sorry, it's 18-300
I have an 80D also. I keep the 18-300 Sigma on about 90% of the time. Works well for me also with a polarizer filter. Tamron also has one in this range. Hope this helps.

I also use a Canon 18-135mm lens as my walk around lens. Mine is the the newer 18-135 IS USM. This lens is sharp, auto-focuses very fast, and stays on my 77D a majority of the time.

Hi georgiapeach2

My favoured 'all day walk around' lightweight lens system for my 80D is the EFs 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, paired with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. And other than zoos and birds, the EFs 15-85 does about 80% of the work. I like and use the wider end a bit, and find the IQ, colour and contrast right up there with the best. I used to use the EF 17-55 f2.8 similarly, but find I'm only using it for the f2.8 now in deference to the EFs 15-85. If I thought the IQ might be an issue, and outweighed the convenience, I'd pack a set of primes.

I am a press photographer Rather than taking two or 3 different lens setups. I now rely on my Tamron 18 to 400 It does the job

I also use the 18-135 IS USM as a walk around lens on my 77D. Works well if the top end is long enough for you .

I have a Tamron 18-300. It's the only lens I have and it has proven to be the best walk around lens I could have ever used. It went all the way through Israel with me and everything I have photographed since...Which has been a bunch of years.

Do you tend to shot wide or tele? could make a big difference, my suggestion Sigma 17-70, but I'm tending to the wider end of things.

I'm with Bob - I use the Sigma 17-70. If I were go to a wider range, it would be the Sigma 18-300.

Canon 18-135 is STM on a crop frame will handle most all photo situations from wide (28mm) on crop to standard zoom (216mm). These lenses are sharp, quick to focus, not too expensive, and are light enough to balance well on crop cameras.
