I rented this lens for a week to try out before buying. Other than the weight making it a little shaky when hand held, I am very satisfied. (enough to buy one)
Here are a few pics, un-edited jpegs.

I picked up a nice monopod two weeks ago and have been using that to hold the weight
while I'm waiting for some action. That has been really nice to use with that lens.
I would highly recommend it. I pick up the whole thing while shooting birds in flight,
and use it on the ground for more still shots.

I'm envious. I can't shoot a bird without it looking like a blob. I'd be REALLY happy with these!
I know the feeling, I trashed many duck blob photo's at first. I did a lot of practice
on seagulls to go from 200mm and get the bird in the frame, then slowly zoom to 550mm
lock focus and start firing. I also switched to back button focus which is really helpful.
Great series!! Looks like that lens is serving you well.

Wow, you've done good! Love the first shot, none of my shots with my "new to me" 150-600 have impressed me as much as that one. Still having problems with my mirrorless and moving objects.

I shot some decent bird pictures over the last month with the new to me
Tamron 150-600 v1 and D7200. I'm impressed with the lens and with a little
Lightroom action I'm getting the shots I've always wanted to try. Using Manual, RAW,
auto ISO really helped get these.
very nice shots, skylark!
Great shots. Thanks for posting. And I’m thanking you for somewhat selfish reasons. I just bought that lens a couple of weeks ago and have not really had a chance to use it. I took a few shots in less than ideal circumstances and wasn’t overwhelmed with its sharpness. Your pics show what the lens is capable of.
I also bought a monopod just to support the weight and avoid fatigue while waiting.

Thanks! I was very relieved that the sharpness was up to par. After getting some real nice keepers on some easy targets I was
able to push my limited experience right away. Auto ISO has made all the difference, plus reading the Steve Perry
book on the Nikon Autofocus system. Sunny days really help this type of shooting too. Most of those shots are
around 1250-1600 shutter f6.3 and iso around 1200. I realized very quickly that birds are really small and you still
have to get pretty close, I just pick a spot and let the action come to me. I shot some nice Oriole pics today and
it took 2 hours to get what I wanted.

Very nice 67skylark27, enjoy the lens, it's a good one
Update: I found a good deal on the G2 version of this lens and I love it even more. I was
able to get the 1.4x tele with it. It is excellent on sunny days or low light slow moving
objects. Very sharp and the stabilization is excellent.
Excellent lens and the photographer is not bad either!
