ART is in the mind of the observer.
My question of the month: What makes a Sigma ART lens ART? From what I can see from the ads, it's just another chunk of expensive glass.

Higher manufacturing quality, metal bodies, F/1.8 or 1.4, uncompromising performance. ANd still costs less than OEM product.

Its just an advertising/categorizing phrase, that Sigma used since introducing their new line of Global Vision optics, separating them into 3 categories, Art, Contemporary and Sports, and that's all that there is to it, the name has nothing to do with art itself, its just a name, but implementing that that line of lenses are of preferred use for artistic impression, because of the high quality (like I said an advertising jargon, nothing more)!
Great question! I'd like to hear Sigma's definition of art too.

Like Canon has L lenses.
A distinguishing mark by the manufacturer to designate a better buildof lens in their line.

Does Sigma have to define the meaning? What if they called it something else like A series?
Art is another word that really means "brick". Something that is large, heavy and totally useless for an over loaded landscape photographer.

What makes A BMW "The ultimate driving machine"? A Koeningsegg at 3 million$. and 200mph is far more ultimate. Sigma ART< just a marketing slogan.
