Have never sent my images by e-mail before. Is there a rule-of-thumb as to selecting a size—-S,M,L,—? Thanks—

I generally just select the smallest size available. That’s more for the recipient—than myself. They may have “size restrictions” that I don’t have and be unable to open them.

But “digitally dyslexic”? Does that mean you get the cart before the horse?

From How Stuff Works, "What is the best size to send photos by email?

In general, if you are e-mailing the pictures to friends who will view them on a computer screen, you will want to send them pictures in the jpeg format at 640 x 480 pixels. If you are printing the pictures, you need about 150 pixels per inch of print size".

May email providers limit the total email size to under 20 Meg.

I use the Windows resizer power toy and either do small (fits a 854x768 screen) or medium (fits a 1366x768 screen).
That way I can attach a few images without any problem of going over the mail size limit.

Pay more attention to file size versus pixels, etc. Keep each photo to 1-2 Megabytes (Mb) and you can attached 3-4-5 at a time. (The 64Ox480 rule went back to the days of dial up modems).

I regularly send attached photos which are 5x7 300dpi (1500x2100) which are usually around 2 mb saved at the highest JPEG quality. I have sent several at a time, or larger files with no problem.

When in doubt, first send an email to yourself with the attached file as a test.

Most of the photos I sent via email are so the receiver can view, enjoy and forget. So I like to embed them in the email, rather then attach them. I also found the if there are more then three, my friend get bored. 640x400 works best for this.

If you just want to show someone a picture, make it small. If it's important, make it large and use DropBox or Google Drive.

Depends on the carrier. I send small images via email but use Dropbox for larger images a a big group of images

Good advice as usual. My sister's e-mail limits attachment files to 5 megabytes. As long as I just want to send her a picture to illustrate something I'm writing about, I keep it small. If she's going to print it out and/or enlarge it, I use DropBox or Winkflash, giving her download rights.

Size may depend on the carrier you use for email though most of the big names for email, those sizes are fine.
