Got asked to do a baseball game. Never shot one. Generally don't point the camera at subjects that have fewer than 4 legs or can't fly. These guys were mostly Afghan vets and some of the nicest young men I have met.

Nicely captured.
Tough direct overhead sun so lots of shadows to deal with...

Excellent shots. The bright overhead sun is very hard to shoot with. Always a problem. Mahalo for taking your time.

I tried playing with contrast and highlights in post and every other trick available to me...but light is everything...shaded face against a bright uniform..

Got any ideas?

Lower contrast, raise shadows, lower highlights, increase exposure.

Change scheduled time of game :-)

The DR (Dynamic Range) in this shot goes from pitch black to blown out. No dslr camera in the world can cover this in camera. Post processing will only do as well as the sensors ability to capture the info.

High sun is great for creating mood in a spaghetti western showdown but not great for capturing faces under helmuts. :-)

Expose for the highlights and process for the shadows. That works every time for me.
