My Canon 70D died on me this morning at my son’s baseball game. The batteries were fully charged but it won’t come on anymore. I did a search for reviews on google. This seems to be a common problem. Many say the motherboard has probably died and you can either invest in getting it fixed or use the money to purchase another camera. I purchased this camera about 3 years ago. I thought I was investing in something that would last much longer. I am a novice photographer. I take primarily family photos in the park, sorority events, children programs, birthday parties & sporting events. I would like to become more advanced one day. Maybe taking on wedding events at some point in the future. Can anyone give me some suggestions for a camera that I can purchase that will meet my current and future needs? I don’t know much about how to manipulate the camera manually. I primarily use the auto feature. However I would like a camera that will last a lot longer than 3 years and produce high quality photos without breaking the bank.

You have an $800 camera there. If you can fix it for a few hundred dollars that is your best bet. Contact Canon and find out what the likely cost of repair is. If it lasts a few more years you will be able to buy a much more advanced camera then.

I agree, this is to good a camera to just give up on it. If there is a camera store near you consider starting there for advise. Then look into repair estimates.

Mine did the same thing. It’s about 400to fix. I paid it and it’s fine now. I use my camera on ac in a studio setting. I’m sure having it on for six hours a day was a factor.

Welcome to the forum. My guess is for $200 it can be repaired and you will be all set.Google Canon repair for your area where you live.It is worth fixing.

Thanks everyone for your prompt responses. I will give Canon a call and see if I can have it repaired. I wasn’t sure if it was worth putting $400 into it to repair it but I will take you all’s advice. It is my understanding that it is only $200 to repair if it is still under warranty. Conveniently, these problems don’t occur until the warranty is gone.

70D is still current in many ways. Id it was a 60D inwould ditch it.
The DPAF and ffs of the 70D is still competitive.
200 is cheap to keep it running

I've heard that Canon, depending on the repair cost, might make you an offer to supply a Refurb at a good price.

A Nikon D7200 should suit your needs. Buy an excellent second hand copy from a reputable dealer and second hand lenses and speedlight to suit your needs.

If it's under warranty it should be free. Or you meant extended warranty?

I recently used Canon to repair my G16. While talking to the service rep to set things up, I asked about the Canon Loyalty Program that you mention. I took advantage of it a few years ago when a S95 suffered the dreaded lens error. I think the discount was 10-15% off any refurb price in stock. His reply was that his understanding was that it had been discontinued. No reason was given. Now, said he, if repairing doesn’t make sense, Canon offers a discount on new. We didn’t go into details.

The 70D is a mid-ranged camera that was announced by Canon about five years ago, still a good camera by today's standards. As a few people already mentioned, find out what Canon wants to fix it, it's worth a few hundred dollars to repair it. Good luck.
