I just got a Nikon D500 camera. I have been unsuccessful in formatting the memory cards. Has anyone else had this problem?

Any chance you have the memory write protect switch on the card on?

I moved the switch to the rear on the SD card and put it back in the camera. I powered up the camera and the camera didn't recognize the card, so I put it back. The other card which will also not format has no selector switch....frustrating.

I figured our my problem...had to use the OK button on the LEFT side of the camera, not the OK button on the right side. Sorry for the bother.

Steve Perry has a few videos on the D500. One of them covers a fast way to format cards.

I am glad you got the formatting problem figured out. But I am curious, provided the camera came with an instruction book, did you happen to look there before trying to format the card?

No use the OK button. Read the manual

I personally did not pay attention to the manual with respect to formatting. Why would I when I have had a few Nikons and "know how to format a card." Easy, two button or use the menu.

Then I read that portion of the manual and found out that I did not...

Reading previous posts helps out in a thread as well.

Gee, I guess you didn't get my humor on an open forum.

It was a true revelation...

LOL! I know what you mean. My remark about my failing to hit the OK button forced me to carefully read that section in the manual. I never thought that procedure would change after having owned three other Nikon DSLR's. The OP is not alone!
