Dog gone it Jan! I'm just plum green with envy. I spent hours freezing my fingers off trying to get a shot of the male with his crown exposed.
Got one a few years ago showing a teensy dot of red, but that was all.
Lucky you! The download on the first shot is fantastic!

They are super quick and hard to capture. You got some great shots.

Very nice set Jan. I love this little bird, and it appears to have lots of personality.

This is one very tiny hyperactive little bird...it's one of the smallest songbirds in North America...and the male very seldom raises that red crown unless upset about another bird in its territory. Fortunately for me I caught it upset about a Warbler that shouldn't have been there. Will post that Warbler another day

Sony RX10 IV

Brilliant set Jan, all so sharp,

Great success, Jan, I am joining the crowd,
it is amazing what a skillfull photographer can do with a 1" sensor bridge camera!
Did you have the zoom stretched all the way up to 600mm? I think the bokeh is just about right - without the complete wash off.
I always look for at least some of the environment around the subject.
Beautiful little birds.
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for the lovely compliment Paul...I'm so pleased you liked my photos! This Sony does an excellent job for a 1 inch sensor...but this particular subject was fairly close...these were taken at 220mm.

It was just pure luck my friend...a Prothonotary warbler was invading his territory and he was angry...that's about the only time they put that red crown up😂 But I was really excited to see a Prothonotary Warbler way up here in Pennsylvania...haven't seen one since I left North Carolina...they very rarely come up this far!
