Just a little update the new Panasonic G9 has has a 80 pixel shift as well😀

It's the fastest contrast-detect AF for sure. But the Sony acquires focus in half the time - .03 secs compared to .6 secs. I think that the tracking performance is comparable.

What an awesome reply. Thank you so much for explaining it to me. I was reading an article online that said to shoot birds with a 4/3 at F11 and I was wondering why -- now I know. Great explanation of everything.

The number of pixels you need for a given print size is based on viewing distance. You would never set the resolution for 40"x60" at 300 ppi. That would be a ridiculous file size - 12,000 x 18.000 or 210 mp.

You might want to rethink your advice after you read this:

And remember those wonderfully sharp and clear images taken with iPhones plastered onto billboards - from an 8 mp image.

Per Burkphoto, one can probably get away with a 3 mp image for a billboard due to the viewing distance. One will not have pixel peepers to worry about for that kind of image.

I promise you that we are all glad that you have come up with an informed decision. Both cameras would have served you well, but personal needs and wants will usually put one up over the other. One other suggestion; you might want to buy the Olympus EE-1 eyesight for your bird photography. Because they can be mounted on any camera, most stores ran out of them in February and they will not be back in-stock until June sometime.

I have Oly E-M5II and the 75-300 and have had great success with it and my camera has fewer pixels than the M1- II. I don't think you'd be satisfied with a bridge camera.

Thank you! Crossing my fingers that the Oly will not be too hard for me to learn how to use. I have read comments online regarding an almost overwhelming number of customization options.

Just take your time...I do recommend joining the em1ii Facebook group (if you use Facebook) and signing up at mu-43.com.

I also suggest, if it seems too intimidating, buying a book on the E-M1mrII. I am constantly learning new and useful features. Today I learned you can lock the difference between the ambient exposure and the flash. This is different than just setting one's flash for a set fill flash of the dark areas and let the ambient exposure move. With a book, it will allow quicker and more in-depth access to these types of features.

Great suggestions. I would definitely buy a book and get into a couple of groups. I actually LOVE learning about photography, cameras, etc., but just don't want to regret a purchase because my little brain can't wrap its head around a complicated machine. Thanks!
