Just Out Practicing

During lunch, I went out to practice a bit with my camera after customizing a few buttons. I had set the camera up for back button focusing---first time using this feature, and moved the AF area and point selections to buttons that would provide faster access. Additionally, I set the camera to AI Servo and burst mode. I had close to 200 shots just practicing and playing around with the camera settings. Out of all of this, I found three that were interesting. This little gal was trying sit and rest in the water. I tried to take a shot using single shot as she was stationary but every time I would get into position and shoot she would stand up, turn, and sit back down. Her timing was impeccable and it was rather comical. Every shot was of her back and one was as though she was mooning me. After a few attempts and always getting her backside, I decided to switch to burst mode and just walk around as I shot. I managed to get two decent shots out of this and one item I liked in these shots was the catch light in her eye. There were other shots where the catch light was not present and they just didn't seem as alive as these two.

The third shot was just an attempt to catch a bird in flight and track it. Looks like this guy pulled some G's and lost a feather.

Just out practicing, experimenting, and having some relaxing fun during lunch before diving back into the busyness of systems architecture.......

Well, that would be a batting average of 6?

That's one good thing about digital photography, practice is free! And fun to boot. Nice images.

Well, if my understanding of the calculation is correct, perhaps 15? But in either case, still a LOT of practice to be had...

Thank you and totally agree. I faded out of photography for a while due to developing and printing costs. Raising a family was first. The digital world has certainly made it easy to practice more. Coupled with being able to see the results almost immediately---accounting for post-processing time---has made it more exciting and fun.

I’m finding myself that with a new Nikon D850 and some high end lenses that I can’t get enough practice. Stay with it.
