I have an old (70's) Vivitar lens with a 48mm screw mount and a case. I was wondering if anyone knows its value and if it may be of use on the newer digital models and is it possible to mount it on an F mount nikon digital. I also have a 2x adapter for it. Any help will be appreciated.

I picked one up in near mint condition for $20.00. I used it on my Canon cropped framed bodies with an adapter. Usually I needed a tripod for clear sharp photos. The cheapest Canon 70-300mm lens is much better.

I suspect it’s actually a 42 x 0.75 T thread. The value isn’t much, but it can be used on nearly any DSLR or SLR with the proper T-2 adapter.

The M42 x 1.0 screw mount was developed by Zeiss for the Contax S, later used by Praktica and copied by Pentax and others. It is often mistakenly called the Pentax screw mount, and is also commonly referred to as the universal screw mount.
The M42 x 0.75 is the T thread. Which one do you have?
Edit: 2X Teleconverters (not adapter) are available in either mount.

I'm not sure. My first 35mm was a Pentax. t's been a long, long time ago. My first big strobe was a Sunpak 511. My 1st darkroom
enlarger was a used Leitz "Egg".

It appears to be a lens from the film era of decades ago, that requires a T-mount for any specific camera mount. With today's quality glass available. It isn't worth too much. But, should arouse interest to the hobbyist.

After checking the lens, I found that the little pin on the back of the lens is sticking, thus not letting the lens operate as it should. I was goiung to order a nikon F adapter , but now will not.

For extra reach I like my 55-300 Nikon dx lens (it's what I have available) and a 10$ e-bay adapter on my Panasonic gh 1 for 110 - 600 equivalent with quite outstanding performance for my play needs

I once had a later Pentax K-mount version of it. F/5.6 right? It was pretty sucky, you could not really use it hand held and even on a tripod it gave fuzzy shots. Even with Tri-X film you had to use an ASA (ISO) of only 400. I don't think I actually ever took any useful images with it. It might actually have been useable today on one of my Digital Pentax cameras since they have their VR / SR / whatever in the camera bodies. But I sold it decades ago. You might be able to use it on a Nikon or other camera if you stay with high ISOs, 1,600 or higher. The adapter most likely costs way more than that lens today. You might really jut look for a used Nikkor lens.
