Angela,
I think the birds are much faster than the gators... Hence any movement of the gator and the bird would be long gone... This is only a theory...

Nice shots by the way

Larry, that sounds logical... I didn't see any birds missing any toes or legs, so they must fly away!!

They're good ones, Angela! It's interesting to see how the birds will use the alligators as a perch.

The probably feed them whole dead chickens hanging over the pen. The birds you photo-ed are safe, like alot of reptiles, once fed they go somewhere out of sight (can't do that at the zoo or on display) and like Thanksgiving, take a nap till feeding time again.
