I took these photos in Petrified Forest National Park and The Painted Desert on Feb. 2 this year. We spent the night in Holbrook then mostly just drove through it the next day. We did very little walking.

Very nice series of photos. Thanks for sharing. My wife and I have done the same drive several years ago. Must do it again sometime. We drive right through Holbrook twice a year since we are snowbirds from Missouri and spend the winters in Apache Junction, AZ. We always try to be in Holbrook around lunchtime. The gift shop by the old hotel just south of I40 on 77 (through town) has a restaurant that serves up some wonderful Mexican vittles and we eat lunch there usually twice a year. Beautiful colors in those parks and they change from day to day and sometimes from hour to hour. Glad you enjoyed the scenery and got some great photos. Have a GREAT DAY!

I love the Chinle Formation! The same one that makes up the Painted Desert and is present in Capital Reef and Ecalante. The Navajo call it the Land of the Sleeping Rainbow, and for good reason. Nice pix! Thanks.

Thank you all for looking and for your kind words. That is a very interesting place. Cany, thank you for suggesting I post my photos, too. I hadn't intended to do it right after your great post, but I can see that they are really quite different--different time of day and different conditions.
