Wondering, if you needed to do one or the other.....would it be better to get new body and used lenses or refurbished body and new lenses?????

It does not matter. Just make sure you buy from a reputable photo store like B&H, Cameta, Adorama, or Canon/Nikon Stores. That way you're not likely to get a gray market body or lens. You'll save money getting refurbished. The only drawback, is that if you buy Nikon, you will only get a 90 day warranty. Not a big deal to worry about. IMO.

If those are the choices, I’d go with refurb body and new lenses. I’ve bought several refurb bodies with no problems. But like mas24 says, buy from a reputable dealer.

I've had both, and it really does not make a difference. If you buy a refurb body, and it is available at time of purchase, consider an extended warranty for the peace of mind.

Just got a refurbished Nikon 24 mm 1.8 lens from Nikonusa.com. Got an extra 10% off and got it for $200.00 less than new from B&H. Lens came with everything except original box. Looks and acts brand new. Only down side, comes with a 90 day warranty. But, I tested the lens and everything works great. This will not be a go to lens so refurbished worked for me. If I am going to use the lens extensively I would have gone with new. But, lens is great, works great, I'm happy.

All my Canon cameras and lenses are refurbished. in fact I just bought a refurbished 10-22mm EF-S lens. The retail price of the lens is $600 before tax. I paid $475 including sales tax and free delivery. The lens comes from Newport News, VA. I live in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay, I will receive delivery today, one day after I ordered it. I only buy from the Canon refurbished site. They give a 1 year warranty with each piece of equipment. All the equipment I have purchased are in new condition. Most of the items are returned overstock items from dealers. When they are returned to the factory, they are inspected thoroughly by factory technicians. Good luck.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a refurbished from a reputable dealer, as mentioned in previous posts.

I would trust both from the manufacturer like Canon. I've purchased several of their lenses and one of their cameras.

How about both? Then you might have saved enough to get another refurbished lens! Like above - most important where you get it from ;)

I read that lots of refurb items are returns that they checked out before resale. They're put through an inspection and operating routine that's a bit more than what the factory new items get. Most factory quality checks are on a sample and not each item.
