GeneM Loc: Upstate PA

I came across a thread where someone asked for a flower ID. Another answered it was a Mullein plant. I didn't think it was a correct ID because I never saw one like that. I went through my "vault" and found these pics of Common Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) plants (weeds?) where I live. ( info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbascum_thapsus )

(Yep, I still think it's mullein in the other thread,too, especially given the large numbers of varieties.)

Thanks for looking. When I first saw the other thread, I was in doubt about the ID, but after looking at some of the other varieties, it could possibly be a mullein. I've only seen the kind in my pics where I live (and in S. Del.).

Great shots, and did you know the plant, which usually has ultra soft leaves was used as toilet paper by the pioneers?

Oh yeah. And they dried the leaves to smoke in their pipes ... not the ones they used for toilet paper. :lol:
