The Lensbaby Sweet 50 was delivered yesterday afternoon and I have been learning how to use it. I can see I am going to need lots of practice. I have been shooting in manual mode for a long time but I have to confess that I rarely manually focus my lens. I feel like I need a few more hands. I practiced using a vase of roses that my husband bought me in Pennsylvania a few years ago. They are made of thin pieces of wood shaped like the pedals of roses. You definitely need to begin with a subject that will not move. Of the many practice shots I took today this one turned out the best. I think I used a closeup lens in this one.

Congratulations on your new lens. It will take a while to get use to the lens and the f/stop you will be happy with. Several examples using your lens have been posted here in the Hog. There is a Lensbaby section you can look at to see many examples.

Congrats on getting your first Baby, Bizzy, I know you will love it!!! I told you, my first was the Sweet 35 first almost a year and a half ago and I became totally addicted!!! You will be amaze at what this lens will create and because of the manual focus, it forces you to slow down and really think about the shot!! There is a learning curve with all the lensbabies, but that's the most fun and the worst that can happen is we delete!!
Your first image looks great... have fun and keep posting!!

Hahahhaa... told you!!! Another thing you might like, before investing in the Velvet 56, are the macro converters you can add to the composer pro before you insert your optic. It allows you to get much closer.... you get two, +8 +16, you can use them seperately or together for really close up. I usually use them with my Sweet 50.

...you can always buy really cheap, the older optics on ebay

I ordered a set of close up lens to attach to the front of the lens when I got the sweet 50 and realized I should have bought the converters.

I have those screw on lenses to use with the older optics... I didn't know they have them for the Sweet50

I just googled them... I had no idea, I think I would rather those than having to take the optic out to change them.

I am going to give them a try for awhile before buying anything else. Maybe they will be all that I need.

I'm sure they're fine....
FYI, if you are on Facebook, there is a Lensbaby Unplugged group that is very inspiring and you can also post on it.... you can get wonderful ideas from there.
