Adding name/copyright

What apps are folks using to add their name & copyright on the photo? I've seen some that look like prints that have borders with that information in the border area as well as just positioned on their individual photos. Any tips or information greatly appreciated.

Your first line of defense is to include copyright information in the EXIF data when you process a photograph. Nikon's insert automatically, and Lightroom allows you to add more expansive text.
On the image itself, a Photologo custom created for you. John Barclay has a promo running with Photologo.com which still may be current:

Anyone can feel free to use any of my posted photos any way they wish. I don't need the money.

I just use one of my photo editors to add my name in a cursive font. It allows me to place text anywhere on an image. I've also used Picture Shark to put a transparent watermark on them. Picture Shark requires an image of watermark in the same image size to overlay the watermark. Just adding the text seems simpler. You can review some of my postings to see them.

You can set most cameras to add copyright info to the EXIF data to each image (but it can be changed/edited with an EXIF editor). You can easily add signature or copyright info to the photo with LR, PS or Fastone (free) among many other ways. If you create your signature as a file, export/save it as a .PNG file which will have a transparent background.

I would feel flattered if anyone wanted to steal my photos so I'm not going to try to stop them.

In most cases we all would be flattered for someone to think our photo was good enough for them to want to use. And, many would probably not wish to be remunerated. HOWEVER, there are ways and times where YOUR photo could bring legal and criminal action back against you because of the WAY it was used and the representations around it.

Keep your property safe. Gift your images to people and organizations you know and trust. All fine. But once stolen it could be manipulated, composited etc. in ways you would NOT approve. So being cavalier about it, is not the safest thing for your security. And the greater your wealth and assets, the greater are your risks.

These are all unlikely, but possible scenarios. In the world of the internet, plenty of malicious actors exist.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not particularly worried about someone stealing the photos but I would like to make it just a little more difficult for people to not provide proper credit. Of the many times I've been published, all I ever ask for is a photo credit as I'm not doing photography to make money any longer.

I make my own watermarks using PS and save them in brushes.

I set my cameras (Canon) to add that info in into the exif data, so everytime I take a pic, its automatically added to the file ( I don't want any of that info to actually show up inside my pictures! I do however add borders to my pictures a lot of times and place my avatar into it, using PS (takes a couple of seconds)!
