I'm not sure about all the different models but the 50D, 6oD,7D and T3i all do.

You are correct! As a 20D owner am I missing out? Does anyone actually use Liveview? (apart from my daughter who does use it on her 600D)

I would be careful about making generalizations about camera brands. You will probably want to avoid the bottom entry level DSLRs to get better low light ability. What you need to be looking is a good fast lens and a quality flash unit. You will then need to practice and get to know you camera, lens and flash real well. Then you will be able to get good inside photos. 'Live View' is highly over rated in my opinion.

The only time that I can see that Liveview is of any use is when taking a photo low down, close to the ground when you might not be able to get your eye level with the viewfinder. That is, of course, if your LCD has tilt and swivel.

Is it a gimmick or does it actually help?

I have one on my Sony a57 and i could only see myself using it on a low down shot or a high shot.

I use live view (with articulating screen) almost exclusively. Of, course I loved using my Mamiya 645 with the waist level finder.
Great for tripod/monopod work.
Great for composition.
It's a mini monitor, so more representative of how an image looks on the computer monitor or framed on the wall.
Up, down, all around.

Check out this shot. There are twice+ as many parents in front of me in the street than there are students on the sidewalk..
Yes, that's my son with the purple shoes in front. Can't find his girlfriend.

LiveView started with the 50D model.
I shoot with a 50D and have no reason to upgrade at this point as I don't want the video option.
I would rather they put the resources into better quality for stills and leave the video to camcorders.

Anyway ... LiveView is a great addition. It allows you to view your histogram live before you take the shot.

My Canon 5D Mk III has it. But, never use it. I use the optical finder all the time. One neat thing I found with the live view is the ability to zoom in on the point of focus. I haven't actually used this yet, but it's nice to know it exists.
