I checked out the Chattahoochee river north of Atlanta this morning and it is just starting to green up. I started shooting some of the ducks and geese. Wow. I have much respect for anybody that can get one of those in the air and in focus! It's hard enough to get them when they are just paddling around. I was at 300 mm ISO100 f14. Am I on the right track?

Yes, you are on the right track. F/14 is a little heavy on the DoF, but everything is in focus and you seemed to have enough light. Your shots a nicely done. Not as easy as it seems? You have made a start, and done well. The learning curve is great, and practice, lots of practice is required. The good part is every shot you make is practice and nobody needs to know. The chase can get futile. The rewards can be great. And you're never too old! Have fun.

Practice is right! I took almost 100 bracketed to get about 4 I liked. I gave up on autofocus and did manual, it seemed like auto was taking too long to pop in. Is that normal? I'm used to buildings and trees-they don't move as fast.
Great start! Recognize this is a slippery slope - soon you'll be getting up at 6 AM, lugging 10 lbs of equipment around and taking hundreds of pictures (of which you'll end up deleting 95%). Keep posting!
