2 brightly coloured flies which I think are Yellow Dung Flies but they were on flowers.

A Springtail which still has part of a moult on its flank. Apparently Springtails have lots of moults during their life of about a year.

A black Soil mite, Euzetes. The tiny size can be compared with the Springtail next to it which is itself tiny.

A fly with long legs.

👍. Dung flies reproduce in dung and compost. But the adults evidently can visit flowers.

Yes, I also took a photo of these flies mating. The female is less stunning in appearance it seems. This is an agricultural area and no farm animals in the locality.

...but that mite is interesting. I hadn't heard of black soil mites (Euzetes) before. Do you ever find your Springtails in mid moult? This was my first.

Here is the pic with them mating on the flowers too showing the less colourful female.

Thanks Chicopee, I was using a 150mm Sigma macro lens with 68mm of Kenko tubes added. I find the set-up with tubes challenging to focus but they do get you more magnification - 2:1 ratio. I am told to keep practising and it will get easier, I think it is working so I will persist.
