Tamron 90mm macro lens vs. nikon105
How does everyone fill about this lens on a full frame Nikon. Shooting mostly flowers or small objects. Nikon has macro 105 but the cost is a lot more. Also how is it as a over all lens besides the macro.
I can't answer about the Tamron, have never had one. But I have a Nikkor 105 micro. It's absolutely tack sharp if you do your part. Far better than their 200 micro, which I have also. The 105 is my go to when I want something about that focal length. & it's just fine in non macro shots. Sorry I can only answer half your ?
I am a Canon user, so take it for that. My experience with the Canon version of that lens was not so good on my FF cameras. I think it is made for crop sensor, thus creating hazy corners on a FF 5D and 6D.
Having said that, when I used the lens on various Crop Sensors, 40D, 7D and 70D, I was very impressed with it. The only reason I upgraded to the Canon 100 Macro was because I had a job which demanded That I use Full Frame cameras.
Hope this helps!

I've had excellent results with the Tamrom 90mm.
I seriously doubt you’ll be able to see any qualitative differences. Both are capable of excellent results at 1:1. The reasons to buy Nikon would be build quality and resale value. If you aren't hard on equipment and don’t care about reselling, then the Tammy is the way to go.
FWIW, I’ve used both.
I've been using the Tamron 90mm for 2+ yrs. and have had nothing but terrific results with it. Fast and sharp focus and the VC works quite well.
I have the Tamron 90mm macro and would not trade it for anything as it works great. It also works great with a Tamron 2x converter.
I've got both , well the older Tamron macro without VR ( only recently got the Nikon, thinking I'd use the VR ) and to be honest the Tamron is very good and it's a lot smaller .
All Nikon Micro Nikkor lenses are of excellent quality. An old 105 f2.8 Micro Nikkor in the used market is not that expensive.
The 90mm f2.8 Tamron (I do not own one) has excellent quality and as a medium tele is excellent also. Great for portraits.

I own the 60 and 105 Nikon, could not be happier.
I kept reading about the Tamron 90, so I bought one.
I must have found a bad copy because my old Nikon 105 is better. I realize its not a macro but the old
manual focus Nikon 135, I think is sharper and has better colors than the Tamron as well. Like I said, maybe I have a bad copy, but I was hoping for more after I read
all the great reviews.

bengbeng, you mention in your post about "the older Tamron macro". Does Tamron offer a newer version ?? I have the Tamron 24-70 G2 series for my Nikon D750 and I really like this lens. The auto focus is super fast. I also have the Tamron 150-600mm G2. Good lens for the price. ~FiddleMaker

I have the newer version. It is the F017 model. The cost is around $679. It is highly rated in several photo magazines. I am extremely happy with it. I also just bought the Tamron 24-70 G2 along with the Canon 80D. So far every thing is fine.
The Tamron 90mm is a superb lens; I love it!
