Blast from the past. Here are a few shot I took in Circa 1985 Auto racing at Watkins Glen NY. Races Include Gran Prix (formula one), NAS Car, Prototypes, Originals were shot on Kodak Kodacolor film and Ektachrome film. I digitized them around 1993 Transfers were to Photo CD (PCD files). I recently resurrected the images via request of some friends who were there with me. Am posting just a few here and will leave a link to my Flickr Album for any who may be interested there are a total of 105 images showing different aspects of the events. Hope some of you enjoy them.

Very little in the way of safety features in those cars.

For me it really is a blast from the past. Was there twice a year in the mid 70's for the Grand Prix and the Six Hours of Endorence .Would camp out for Four days. Great times. Somewhere are buried in my closets are the extachromes for those races. Your one shot looks like you took it at the bog.

YEP got some bog shots. That was 1985 after that they closed the bog, no more running of burning. Prolly was for the best.
Thank for looking. Glad it brought back some memories for you too.

Thanks... the bent metal one's unfortunately part of the sport. At least in the ones I saw no one was injured or killed. The upside down shot is in a sequence of shots. I was standing there prolly fiddling with my camera. When I looked up the angle of view had the car up in the air jus above my head. The first shot I got was the car just hitting the ground before it rolled over. The first shot slightly out of focus do to surprise and those were the days of manual focus only. I was happy that no one was hurt and also, it did not land on my head :(

Brings back many, many memories of all the times my friends and I camped out at The Glen. We usually camped towards the end of the back straight by turn 5. Was there the day McDuffy died; then they built the inner loop. I've seen F1, IMSA GT, Trans Am, Indy Cars, NASCAR, and several 6 and 24 hour endurance races and quite a few vintage races there. Some of the folks I had the pleasure to meet there include Dan Gurney, Nikki Lauda, Jim Downing, Wayne Taylor and several other accomplished drivers who's names I don't recall at the moment.

Sounds like you had a good time. The only driver I ever met was Paul Williams (he was racing in the Toyota Celebrity Race. Also, saw Paul Newman (also in that race) but did not meet him. Had a few conversations with the Penthouse team. I don't remember the exact location we parked the motor home we rented but that was a really comfortable way to camp there. We usually arrived on Thursday and left on Sunday. Thanks for sharing your experience there.

I like the last one; Dude in sportcoat is obviously the Owner. Guy is driving suit is Crew Chief. Owner is hearing that Ace Driver Guy just lunched the remaining spare engine and he's out for the weekend, and needs to come up with $2k for replacement power plant.

And I thought Photography was an obsession.
