Anyone have a Nikon 28-300 VRII lens for sale at an affordable price, or wish to swap some lenses and some cash for one?

I wish you luck on this one. Most people that have one, will not give it up. It is a fabulous lens.

It's a fairly new lens, so there probably won't be many available any time soon.

Is it a fairly new lens? I know the 18-300 is new but I did not think the 28-300 that I'm after was that new. Any idea when it was introduced then?

Nikon Europe is pleased to announce the introduction of the AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR with a totally new zoom range to the NIKKOR line-up. Featuring almost 11x zoom ratio from 28mm to 300mm this versatile optic brings new levels of flexibility to FX format DSLR users.

this was dated 19th August 2010 from Nikon UK website so would make it to short of 2 years since its launch here in UK.

right, thanks for that. 2 years ago would not be deemed a new lens in my books. Now the new 18-300 is new as in a few months old.

Me neither, But obviously a popular lens I don't know when it was launched in the US or indeed the cost but I the UK it was around the £750 mark At today's exchange rate would be roughly $1150.

If it is a good lens, which I find mine is extraordinarily sharp, most people will not be selling their good lens in less than a year or two.

I never said it was just released. If you have a low market lens, you might upgrade in less than a year time. If you own this lens, you will know what I am talking about. Not a lens you would be getting rid of just after purchase. If it was, you would be seeing them on Ebay, etc. Hence the difficulty the poster has in locating a used one.

I know you didn't say it was "Just Released" but you stated it was a fairly new lens, which led me to believe, withing the last year when in fact it is 2 years old. That's why I said, to me that was not a fairly new lens release. To my mind a lens released in 2010 is already an established lens. One that has been out about 8-12 months would be a fairly new lens release.

I have a Nikkor AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens complete with box and everything that came with it that I would sell for $850 plus shipping and insurance. It is a little over a year old and works perfectly. If you would like to see some of the pictures that I have taken with it check out Yellowstone pictures that I have posted lately. I purchased a Sigma 50-500mm and would like to invest in a new prime lens.

Silver Fox...

Thanks for the offer but I bought a new one for $949. It is a great lens though.

Lucian, where did you find a new one for $949? the best price I've seen is $100 more than that. I'm in the market for one.

Keh... they buy and sell used equipment and are also agents for Nikon for selling new gear and they had a special going. So, instead of looking for a used one I chose to pay the extra $100 and bought a new one from KEH, I too could not believe the new price.

They are and excellent company to deal with and it is an excellent lens and can be used as is on an FX camera since it is an FX lens. I'm selling my Tamron 18-270mm VR Piezo lens now, just over a year old, to help pay off this lens.
