Hi all

I'm Vicky from the North West of England.

I'm new to photography & enjoy taking photo's of places I visit as I love travelling.

I enjoy taking photographs of wildlife & nature so hoping to pick up some tips to help me along the way.

Where? Lake District, Penrith, Carlisle, Cockermouth, Barrow? Some place more obscure? I've been to the area 6 times on vacation and can't wait to go back. There are plenty of photo opportunities all around you. Post some photos and ask questions. This is what it's about.

Hi Vicky, welcome to the hog. You will find so many people here that can and will help you. Just ask...And while you are here, make some friends, have conversations with them, and of course post some of your images. But first and foremost, HAVE FUN.
Rich...

Hi Rich

Thank you for your advise :)

I will hopefully post some images soon

Hello, Vicky! The wife and I are coming your way this summer. Going to spend about 10 days in the Yorkshire area to relax and take photos. A day trip to the coast, maybe hop a train to Lincoln. Always hoping to hear of photo locations where I’m not behind 500 other tourists. We have plenty of time to go west, if you know of superb photo ops.

Hello DStone

I'm hope you enjoy your stay in the UK.

I travelled to Halifax in West Yorkshire & went to The Piece Hall which was worth a visit. I think I've added I photo I took while I was there. It's free to visit & there are lots of one off shops there. Also you could have a look around the centre of Halifax at the same time as it's walking distance to the town.

Post some pictures. We love pictures of England. North West would be near the Lake District. Spectacular scenery - can't wait to see some.

I drove the M62 from Manchester to Liverpool in 2013 to take the ferry to the Isle of Man. (First part of a vacation that ended up in the Lake District.) I didn't care for the traffic at either end, but you're in the middle. That part of the drive was pleasant.

The M62 can be a nightmare if there are any accident but like you say it's a nice drive but not really much to see, except for IKEA.

I've been to all three towns. Also spent a couple of days at the Pilkington factory in St. Helen's . Chester was my favorite - really nice. Lots of half timbered Tudor buildings downtown. Unique sort of shopping area (The Rows???) with shops half a level above and below the pedestrian street. Maybe you could give yourself an assignment to do a photo study of it and post here.

You've done something I've not done & gone to the Pilkington Factory. Chester is lovely with the roman walls & the shopping with the rows. I need to go back to chester. The catherdal near the shopping area is nice & also the river dee which is also walking distance from the shops is nice too. Plus they have Chester racecourse as well. When I go back i will get some photos & post them.
