I’m doing my first “professional” shoot this weekend myself. Four events surrounding the Opening Day festivities in my Harbor. I didn’t dare ask for pay, but the credits will be valuable and I will charge a small premium if anyone wants framed prints.
Fotoman, I like ykur style!!

I have an idea.
Charge them $500 and put the pics on Zenfolio and let them download for free. Make sure you tell them all the pics are free to download. People don't make prints anymore. They download to their phone or tablet and show that pics that way.
If they don't like your work or you screw up royally, give them their money back.
That way if you do a good job you will have a nice chunk of pocket money. If you screw up they won't be mad because they have their money back.
You can't go wrong.
Family reunions are just group pictures and pics of people talking and hugging. Wait until they gesture, smile or laugh before you press the shutter button.
For the group shot take a test shot, chimp and check your histogram. Face them so that the sun is behind them so they don't have to squint, but you have to make sure their faces are not in shadow. That means you have to overexpose the sun in the background so they the faces can be seen. Even if you screw up you can bring it out in PP. Make sure you shoot RAW.
Go for it!!
What you charge depends on your relation to the group. Your family reunion...FREE Non family...but close friends...$5
Later as you gain experience, you can raise your price. AL
