I have an Olympus, Stylus 1 camera which I love but it there are no wide angle lenses available for this camera. Is it correct, that i need a wide angle lens for shooting the Auroras? If so, can someone recommend a small and simple camera with a wide angle lens i could take in
addition to my Olympus. ?

You can always shoot a panoramic image...

I have the 12 f/2.8 which I use on a Fuji. It’s excellent, Sharp, and a great deal at around $300.00

The OP has a bridge camera and suggesting lenses but no camera is counterproductive. I'd suggest she look at point & shoot models with wide angle lenses unless she wants to go to interchangeable lens cameras. If she does, then we need a budget.

I would have to disagree with that assumption. I have taken quality shots of the stars with my cell phone. As long as you can control aspects of the camera you can get the shot.
A DSLR is not required. A Olympus, Stylus 1 does have interchangeable lenses just not a wide variety.

I already suggested a cellphone camera...This is copied from Digital Trends website on the Stylus one... "The Stylus 1 doesn’t allow for interchangeable lenses – again, its ideal customer is someone who doesn’t want to schlep all that glass – but it has a fixed 10.7x (28-300mm, 35mm equivalent) zoom lens that, while isn’t an ultrazoom, offers enough focal length for the majority of casual and enthusiast users. Unlike long-zoom cameras that boast 20x or higher, the image-stabilized i.Zuiko lens has a f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range, allowing for that blurred background effect and strong low-light performance."

Looks like most point & shoot cameras with a wide angle lens are limited to about a 24mm equivalent, and kinda pricey as well.

They don't move that fast. Your camera will be on a tripod anyway. Any wide angle camera will do with at least a 2.8 equivalent aperture. Look for a body which can handle up to 6400 ISO, that will give an exposure of about 5-10".
