This isn't photo related, but I have to ask, how can you tell the sex of an animal by looking at it?

I’d look between its legs, if it were me.
Seriously, with cardinals, the male is bright red and the female has brownish tones, like this one.

I’m not an ornithologist, but I think that is the case with most birds. The more colorful is usually the male while the female is less “flamboyant”.
