No people and kids and scenes cant be shot because the rules of approval?

Personally, I just prefer to shoot things that don't have opinions about the shot.

Usually when one shoots other people other than family members, there is money involved. Today people are too cheap to have portraits made. Studios are drying up right and left.

Even Lifetouch, once a $billion+ portrait company, has had to sell... to Shutterfly.

Interested in hearing the OP's reply to the reason he doesn't post any photos here.

I have never found the need to photograph people at random. Civil War reinactments, Comicon, Festival, and occasions where people are in costume are far more fun. Those people want their pics taken. If you make money with your camera, shooting at random will not be of interest. Producing community videos with a purpose is fun. Filming music festivals and bands also can result in some fantastic action shots.

It is never my policy to publish or post photo's of people. NOT ANY MORE. Things have changed and photographing and publishing people have become a political quagmire. NO THANKS.

At one time, I tried to 'time' my pictures to avoid people, because I didn't want anyone to be blocking anything. Today I realize how sterile those scenes are.

Well maybe its time to break the rules... here's a snapshot of my wife a couple of years ago when she was 66...

Granted it is more difficult than it was 20 years (or even 10) ago, but there is still a market for good, professional photography. There are people willing to spend $1500-$2500 or more. They are my clients.

Yep. People are engaged in the portrait process. They have emotion, expression, reactions. Parents hang portraits of their kids on the wall and tell me years afterward how much they love seeing those portraits everyday.

A flower will never smile, will never be emotionally invested in the photographic process. A mountain will never cry with joy when it sees its image.

So yeah.

Thanks. It's nice hearing people's opinions on what makes a great photo.

I am captivated by the forms and processes of the natural world, particularly, the few remaining aspects least affected by human growth and pressure. The considerable time effort and expense I've spent in this pursuit leaves little room for straying into another, sometimes contradictory, endeavor. People's numbers are immense. Many are possessed of remarkably good cameras and ever-expanding means of editing and presenting their works to one another. I doubt that people's interests and antics are currently going underreported by the photographic world.

I have a friend we have work together in marketing for years. I shoot a running festival with thousands
on people entered. Producer, shoot manage aerials and edit it together and staff. We shot one of the 10 races a special starting
at a Lions club. They have children's pre school their during the day. My friend asked me to shoot the little playground
where kids were swinging. I told him I can't and I won't. One of ladies with the kids starting eyeing me up with
my camcorder. Waiting for the start of the 9k race right from in front of the club.

You can't sell photo's to a good stock photo company without a release from the people in the photo. A lot of famous
photographers would have a hard time today street and event shooting. My last word is a went to Art Basil in Miami.
And I mentioned this before a forum. I took my Sony RX10 III bridge camera with the 24 600 lens. I was cautious
but wanted to stills and footage to edit promo about short takes. Never got bothered was discreet most of the time.
One attractive european lady walked in front of my camera and started doing a sexy dance. I loved the art show.

When you take a picture of a person they want you to pay them. Animals don't care. Happy shooting.
