Tamron 18-400

Well, crap! I have only had this lens for 4 months and now I have to send it to Tamron for a repair. If I point it towards the ground, the lens creeps all the way down. So no flower picture taking for me til I get it back. B&H just emailed me a copy of my receipt so I can send it to Tamron as proof of purchase. I am taking it to the camera shop where I got all my other equipment. They said they would pack it up good to send it back. At least I can still use my Nikon 100-300 while I am waiting for the repairs.

What a bummer. That lens is on my wish list. It cost $649. I'll have to wait until after April 15. California wants more of my Tax money. Good luck on the repair. Everything will be fine.

That is good to know. I will keep it in mind. The lens is under warranty so at least I won't have to being paying a big repair bill.

Lens creep is a common occurrence.

That should not be necessary on a brand new lens.

not for gas attack people , BUT , this is a common problem with this type of lens , i have a 28 / 300 that used to do that , the cheap fix is a rubber band at the zooming ring to make it stiffer .the problem is to find a wide rubber band .the band should fit half on the lens boby , and the other half on the zooming ring , this create friction .so , problem gone .i made a wide band with a piece of bicycle inner tube , cut a strip , wrap it around the lens so you can see where to glue it to get the right friction .i think you may be able to buy allready made one .

You get what you pay for no matter what it is that you buy.

I'm not a big fan of Tamron lenses but only because I have a few friends that own them and most, if not all, have replaced them with Canon equivalent lenses and they are all much happier. But I have read here on UHH that some people are very happy with them. To each his own. Maybe they have nothing to compare them with. I'm not saying that Canon or Nikon is perfect, but in my experience they are very high quality (most of them). That is to say, all but the most entry level lenses that they make. Those are made cheap, sell for little money or included in a kit to get people started in photography.
